Development and validation of a virtual model of the "venturi engine" at the heart of the SME

  • Deadline: 2nd July 2012
  • Lancaster University UK
The Spectral Marine Energy Converter ("SMEC" for short) is a fluvial and tidal flow Renewable Energy technology currently entering commercialisation. Ongoing refinement and improvement of the design methodology, however, is anticipated to take several years and this process requires development and validation of a virtual model of the "venturi engine" at the heart of the SMEC. The successful Applicant will have a strong grounding in Fluid Mechanics together with experience of building and interpreting Computational Fluid Dynamics models of highly turbulent incompressible flow networks in both 2D and 3D.
