Electrical Engineering and ICT in University of Twente

According to the Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings 2011, the University of Twente is among the top 200 world universities. It is the only campus university in the Netherlands, offering a large number of facilities and sports activities right in front of your office door. Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Twente for more information. The city of Enschede being close to the German border, you can choose to live either in the Netherlands or in Germany, enjoying the rich culture and high standard of living of either country.

The Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT) of the University of Twente is one of the largest academic ICT research institutes in Europe. Over 475 researchers actively participate in the research programme. Integration of technology-based research and its application in specific domains is a clear focus of CTIT.

Its unique multi-disciplinary approach makes the institute an attractive partner. The institute maintains an extensive international network of contacts and working relations with academia and industry. This network includes ICT and manufacturing companies, universities and research institutes, health care organisations, financial institutes, governmental organisations, and logistics service providers.

CTIT is one of the founding fathers of the Netherlands Institute for Research on ICT (3TU.NIRICT); this institute bundles the ICT research and innovation activities of the three Universities of Technology in the Netherlands. 3TU.NIRICT is core-member of EIT.ICT Labs. Aim of EIT.ICT Labs is to become a pan-European flagship uniting Education, Research, and Innovation for the Future Information and Communication Society.

The distributed and embedded security research group (DIES) at University of Twente has a strong research profile in a wide variety of security and privacy related topics ranging from cryptographic research over practical security, like intrusion detection, to application domains, like industrial control system. You will be a member of this group and benefit from the broad expertise of its different members. Other CTIT research groups focus, for example, on vehicular communication systems or organizational security, offering an excellent and multi-disciplinary environment for your research.

Together with the Universities of Eindhoven and Nijmegen, the University of Twente offers the Kerckhoff master course specializing exclusively on security. This offers you the chance to work with students that specialize in security and already bring a good foundation for project related projects or theses.
