Deadline: 1st August 2012
Humanities

NTNU has a Postdoctoral fellowship available within the NORD-STAR research centre. The appointment period is two years located at the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture.
The Nordic Centre of Excellence NORD-STAR pursues the vision of a Nordic region that can adapt to the inevitable consequences of climate change and the unintended consequences of climate policy. We do this by making a novel contribution to the Nordic adaptation knowledge base which helps public and private decision makers at all levels adapt to climate changes in a sustainable manner.
The funding of the NORD-STAR project comes from NORDFORSK and is a collaborative project between researchers across the Nordic area.
The postdoctoral project will be engaged in one of the subprojects of NORD-STAR: «Local strategies to enhance adaptive capacities; dynamics of transitions towards adaptive and carbon neutral communities» and has a twofold focus: (1) to analyse the use of qualitative interviews, community dynamics and the dynamics of strategic planning in communities that successfully have adapted towards more low-carbon living, and: (2) to translate community institutional structures, preconditions and transformation processes into dynamic computer models, rooted in system dynamics modelling, enabling the simulation of region-wide implications of different settings, policies and strategies at the community level.
The postdoctoral fellow is required to spend 9 months out of the 2 year contract outside of the Nordic region. CiRUS in Switzerland and MIT in Boston, have expressed willingness to serve as host institutions.
Further, the postdoctoral fellow will get the opportunity to participate in the research collaboration at the Centre for Energy and Society organized at the department. Additionally, he/she will be a part of a broader interdisciplinary collaboration within Energy and Environment at NTNU. The department offers a dynamic and competent research environment with many Phd’s and researchers engaged in related themes. The project will also be a part of the newly founded Centre for Sustainable Energy Studies (CenSES). The candidate will be selected based on academic and research record, including publications, research interests, recommendations, and compatibility of background. Applicants should have experience in performing qualitative interviews and social studies of energy transitions. Furthermore, interests and abilities within interdisciplinary research collaboration is emphasized.
A successfully completed doctoral degree within the field of humanities or social sciences is a prerequisite.
Since the project already is defined, a project plan is not to be enclosed, but the successful candidate will develop the project in cooperation with supervisors. Good communication and networking skills are essential. The candidates must have an ability to work independently, as well as a part of a team. The working languages will be Scandinavian languages and English. The appointment of the postdoctoral fellow will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges. It is a major political objective to achieve a balance of age and gender in the national labour force and to recruit persons with an immigrant background. Immigrants and women are therefore encouraged to apply for the position.
Applicants that are considered for the position will be asked for references and invited to an interview.
For additional information contact Senior Researcher Jøran Solli, tlf. 73 55 05 96, e-mail: joran.solli@ntnu.no or Associate Professor Margrethe Aune, tlf. 73 59 18 98, e-mail: margrethe.aune@ ntnu.no.

Norway: Postdoctoral position in experimental reservoir technology

Deadline: 24th July 2012
Nationality: Any

A two years postdoctoral position in experimental reservoir technology with a focus on fundamental effects of CO2 on rock properties is available at the Department of Petroleum
Engineering and Applied Geophysics at NTNU.

Key topics to be studied are rock sealing characteristics of geological formations in order to understand how CO2 behaves when reaching partly sealing barriers. Experiments should be performed to investigate how rock/fluid interactions will influence the sealing properties. Laboratory measurements of CO2 behaviour in partly sealing rocks will include permeability of low permeable rocks, capillary entry pressure measurements, rock fluid wet ability investigations including studies of geochemical processes. New experimental techniques will be investigated to give more reliable results on CO2 flow behaviour. These results can be used to calibrate reaction-transport modelling aimed at predicting long term behaviour of CO2 storage.

Candidates with a PhD in experimental reservoir technology and with knowledge in experimental techniques for rock-fluid studies like X-ray tomography, NMR spectroscopy, SEM, XRD, etc. will be preferred. Suitable background can be a PhD in reservoir engineering, physics or chemistry.

For more detailed project information please contact Professor Ole Torsæter (ole.torsater@ntnu.no) or Adjunct Professor Jan Åge Stensen (jan.aage.stensen@sintef.no).

Candidates should provide a short motivation for their application, a description of their research interests and why they consider being well suited for the position. A complete publication list must be attached and in the case of multi-authored publications a brief description of the applicant’s contribution should be given. Three publications considered by the candidate to be the most important for the position should be highlighted. Unpublished work that the candidate would like to be taken into consideration must be attached.

Salaries
Post doctors are remunerated in code 1352, in the State salary scale 57-76, grossNOK468 100 toNOK672 200 per annum (before tax). The salary is adjusted to recent wage negotiations, and is given subject to final approval of the Storting (the Norwegian Parliament). Post doctors are normally remunerated at wage level 57. There will be a 2 % deduction to The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.

Applications with CV, certified copies of diplomas, certificates of education and other relevant documents, and the names, e-mail addresses and phone numbers of three references should be submitted electronically through www.jobbnorge.no.
