Norway: PhD position within the focus area War, Conflict and Migration

Globalization Research Programme (http://www.ntnu.edu/global) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, invites applications for one PhD position within the focus area of War, Conflict and Migration.
Globalization is one of NTNU’s six strategic research areas, which aims to build high level research capacity. Research within the Globalization Programme is centred on four focus areas: (1) Global Production and Communication, (2) War, Conflict and Migration, (3) Intercultural Dynamics and (4) Global Economic flows, Governance and Stability.
For this announced PhD position, focus area War, Conflict and Migration seeks a PhD candidate who intends to study on forced and irregular migration, particularly on one or combinations of following issues.
  • Issues relating to impacts of ‘restricted’ migration policies on mobility and immobility of groups of people namely; forced migrants (refugees and asylum seekers) and irregular migrants (transnational labor migrants).
  • Issues relating to integration of refugees, asylum seekers and irregular migrants. For example studies on analyses of policy and practice, and on encounters between immigrant populations and host communities.
We encourage applicants with research backgrounds in migration studies, especially, within immigration, forced migration, refugee studies and ethnic relations, to apply for this PhD position.
 The PhD position is remunerated according to salary scale 48 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK 391 300 annually, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.
PhD study at NTNU is organized in PhD programmes. Successful applicant for the PhD position must apply and be accepted to the relevant PhD-programme following his/her employment.

  • A CV, with information on education, examinations and previous research experience, and the names of possible references must also be included.
  • A project proposal (10 pages) for the research you intend to carry out during the period of the scholarship. The project proposal must include hypothesis, goals, scientific methodology and theory. The project proposal must also include a research plan showing that the project can be completed realistically during the period that is devoted to the project.
  • Scanned copies of educational certificates. The originals must be produced at the interview.
  • A list of publications (if available) and any other works they wish the commission to take into consideration.
If some of the attachments cannot be sent electronically, one copy should be sent by regular mail. This might for instance apply to publications that the applicant wants to be considered.
