A two years postdoctoral position in experimental reservoir technology with a focus on fundamental effects of CO2 on rock properties is available at the Department of Petroleum
Engineering and Applied Geophysics at NTNU.
Key topics to be studied are rock sealing characteristics of geological formations in order to understand how CO2
behaves when reaching partly sealing barriers. Experiments should be
performed to investigate how rock/fluid interactions will influence the
sealing properties. Laboratory measurements of CO2 behaviour
in partly sealing rocks will include permeability of low permeable
rocks, capillary entry pressure measurements, rock fluid wet ability
investigations including studies of geochemical processes. New
experimental techniques will be investigated to give more reliable
results on CO2 flow behaviour. These results can be used to
calibrate reaction-transport modelling aimed at predicting long term
behaviour of CO2 storage.
Candidates with a PhD in experimental
reservoir technology and with knowledge in experimental techniques for
rock-fluid studies like X-ray tomography, NMR spectroscopy, SEM, XRD,
etc. will be preferred. Suitable background can be a PhD in reservoir
engineering, physics or chemistry.
For more detailed project information please contact Professor Ole Torsæter (ole.torsater@ntnu.no) or Adjunct Professor Jan Åge Stensen (jan.aage.stensen@sintef.no).

Candidates should provide a short
motivation for their application, a description of their research
interests and why they consider being well suited for the position. A
complete publication list must be attached and in the case of
multi-authored publications a brief description of the applicant’s
contribution should be given. Three publications considered by the
candidate to be the most important for the position should be
highlighted. Unpublished work that the candidate would like to be taken
into consideration must be attached.
