PhD positions at the ACLC

The Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication has up to four four-year PhD positions available for excellent candidates, starting September 2013.
PhD positionsThere are two ways in which you can apply for a PhD position at the ACLC. The first possibility is for you to present yourself as a candidate for one of the projects that were defined by research groups of the ACLC. The second possibility is for you to apply with your own research proposal.
Predefined projectsThe projects for which you can apply are the following.
- On the P route to language universals.
- The acquisition of nominal ellipsis in Dutch and French L1 and 2L.
- Production and processing of allomorphy: evidence from children with and without developmental dyslexia.
- The interplay between learner, language, and input characteristics in second language acquisition.

Individual PhD proposalIf you apply with your own PhD proposal make sure that this proposal fits within one of the ACLC research programmes The Language Blueprint and Learnability. If proposals focusing on foreign languages taught at the University of Amsterdam are of equal quality, they will be given preference. Your application as well as your research proposal should follow the Guidelines for submitting an Individual PhD proposal. For further information please contact a potential supervisor at the ACLC.
TasksThe PhD student needs to carry out the research and write a dissertation within the contract period.
Requirements(Research)MA in linguistics (or equivalent), obtained no longer than five years ago.

PositionThe PhD student will be appointed for a period of up to 4 years (80%) at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam under the terms of employment currently valid for the Faculty. A contract will be given in the first instance for one year, with an extension for the following years on the basis of an evaluation of, amongst other things, a written piece of work. The salary (on a full time base) will be € 2042 during the first year (gross per month) and will reach € 2612 during the fourth year, in accordance with the CAO for Dutch universities.
