UK: Research Assistant Imperial College London

Deadline: 31 Jan. 2013

Research Assistant

Imperial College London -Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering

Salary range: £28,200 - £31,250 per annum South Kensington campusFixed term appointment of three years
A research position is available in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering for commencement in February 2013.
The Optical and Semiconductor Devices Group has strong research interests in nanoscale quantum-effect electronic devices for future integrated circuit applications. These include single-electron and quantum-dot devices with sub-10 nm dimensions, where it is possible to precisely control charge at the one electron level. The devices show great promise for ‘beyond CMOS’ applications, and may allow electronic device scaling to be extended towards the atomic scale.
This project represents an exciting opportunity for an outstanding candidate, working as a Research Assistant in the group and simultaneously studying towards a PhD in single-electron devices for ‘beyond CMOS application. The candidate will design, fabricate and measure novel, ultra-small electronic devices with the potential for large scale manufacture. The work will involve close collaboration with and travel to our research partners in the UK, and in a number of European countries.
Applicants should have a strong background and interest in semiconductor device theory, fabrication and measurement. Although full training in micro- and nanofabrication will be provided, experience in ‘cleanroom’ semiconductor device fabrication techniques would be advantageous.
Please note that the successful candidate will be asked to submit a PhD research application to Imperial College Registry to ensure that the College’s admissions criteria are met.
