UK: Marie Curie Research Fellow Advanced Monitoring of Geostructures

Deadline: 17 April 2013

Department: Civil and Environmental Engineering (www.strath.ac.uk/civeng/)
The Research Fellow will develop advanced technologies for field monitoring of pore-water tension and will design and implement a benchmark field experiment to assess a variety of sensors for the monitoring of the geostructure-atmosphere interaction. The Research Fellow will contribute to activities at the Network level including reporting preparation, conducting outreach activities, and organising annual schools.
Applicants will be required to meet Marie Curie Experienced Researcher eligibility criteria. Applicants will have a strong background in civil engineering and will be skilled in laboratory hydro-mechanical testing of soils. Applicants will have an ability to write high standard research papers, will have evidence of a growing international research reputation, and will have the ability to deliver international leading research in soil mechanics/geotechnical engineering.
Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with experience of testing soils under unsaturated conditions; experience or training in sensor electronics, measurement of soil electromagnetic properties and/or field monitoring of geostructures.
Expressions of interest are particularly welcomed from women and ethnic minorities.
