Project descriptionResearch work will deal with how novel ionic liquids can be used to improve the rheological, frictional, and wear properties in mechanical systems. Tribological contacts will be modelled by using various tribometers including the nano-, micro- and macro- scales. A range of surface sensitive techniques will also be used to identify wear mechanisms and the ionic liquid interfacial properties. The research activities are a part of a large collaboration program which involves interaction with partners performing synthetic, characterisation, modelling and physicochemical studies.
