Denmark: PhD Scholarship in Mobility and Interfacial Effects under Degradation of Polymer Solar Cells

Deadline: 28 Jan. 2013

Technical University of Denmark -Department of Energy Conversion and Storage

Eurotech Universities Position: PhD scholarship in Mobility and interfacial effects under degradation of polymer solar cells
Organic solar cells is a promising technology for converting sunlight into electricity. Their advantages include light weight, flexibility, environmental friendliness, low costs and, most notably, very fast modes of production by standard roll-to-roll (R2R) printing techniques. The power conversion efficiency of OPV cells has been growing steadily at +0.5% per year from 1990, mainly due to the discovery of better performing materials. However, faster progress is needed for a commercial breakthrough. For this to happen, new concepts are required, involving cells based on innovative engineered architectures.
Project description
The aim of the PhD project is to develop new interface materials and processing techniques for them with the ultimate aim of developing solar cells with a significantly reduced cost when compared to the existing polymer solar cell technology. The methodologies will include materials synthesis (organic and inorganic), ink formulation and film forming using R2R coating methods.
