UK: Fully-funded PhD Studentship, Business School

University of Roehampton -Business School

Salary: £36,630 to £39,697 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance of £3,400 per annum 
As part of a European funded project ‘Universities in the Knowledge Economy’ (UNIKE), the University of Roehampton Business School is offering a fully-funded PhD studentship.
The doctoral student will be an employee of the University for the duration of the doctorial studies and will be given a full-time contract and salary for three years. Additional funding is in place to cover all tuition fees.  Further funding is also in place to cover the costs of travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for attending all UNIKE workshops and summer schools, including a 2-week summer school in New Zealand; and towards the costs of secondments and research visits to Associated Partners, including in the Asia-Pacific Rim. 
The Business School is based at Southlands College, in South-West London.  It is a thriving School that has recently received considerable investment from the University, both in terms of new staff and research students. 
Doctoral project:
Alternative forms of university ownership, finance and organisation
Objective: To model and evaluate alternative ownership, financial and organisational forms (for instance, trusts or co-operatives) which might be adapted and adopted as models for university governance and management.

The successful applicant will:
  • Have a taught masters degree, involving a dissertation of standard length written in English.
  • Have the potential to engage in innovative research and to complete the PhD within the specified length of time.
  • Be expected to become an active member of the School’s research community.
  • In the case of those for whom English is not the first language, have a minimum of English language proficiency (IELTS 7, or equivalent, in all skills).
