Netherlands: Four PhD Positions at the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies

Job description

As a PhD candidate you will write a dissertation on a topic that fits into one of the three research programmes of the faculty’s Research Institute for Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies. You will be trained as a researcher according to an individual Training and Supervision Plan. In addition, you will be employed as a teacher at the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies.

Requirements

You should have a Master’s degree (or the date of obtaining the degree must have been officially set) or similar qualifications in one of the disciplines related to your research proposal. Demonstrable research experience in the field of your proposal will be considered an advantage. 
Your competences as a PhD candidate are: conceptual competence, presentation, planning and organisation, monitoring. You are result-oriented and have excellent writing skills.
You are expected to participate in a faculty research group and, if relevant, in a national research school.

Conditions of employment

- you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If this evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended to the full intended duration: 4 years at 1.0 FTE or 5 years at 0.8 FTE (if teaching tasks are included);
- you will be classified as a PhD student (promovendus) in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO).
the gross starting salary amounts to € 2,042 per month based on full-time employment, and will increase to € 2,612 per month in the fourth year, based on a 38-hour working week.

You can apply by writing a proposal (in Dutch or English) according to the guidelines you can find atwww.ru.nl/ftr/onderzoek/onderzoek/ In addition to the proposal, you should send in: - a curriculum vitae, which includes academic qualifications, grades, a list of publications (if applicable), and the names and contact details of two referees; also include mention of teaching experience (if applicable) or assumed teaching skills; - a letter explaining your motivation, your interest in the project, and your competence in the research field; - a writing sample such as a chapter from your Master’s thesis or a forthcoming or published article or a presented conference paper; - your application must be supported by a declaration of approval from your intended supervisor(s) at the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies. Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.
