  • Early Stage Researchers must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is envisaged.
  • Furthermore, at the time of recruitment, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in UK for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.
  • The successful candidate must possess a good degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science or Physics).
  • Good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Excellent record of academic and/or professional achievement.
  • Experience in circuit design (VLSI) demonstrated by:
  • A publication at an international conference or an international journal
  • Or industrial experience
  • Or Advanced coursework in circuit design         
  • Experience in nanofabrication demonstrated by:
  • A publication at an international conference or an international journal
  • Or industrial experience
  • Or Advanced coursework in nanofabrication and cleanroom experience
  • Candidates are required to send a covering letter (explaining your suitability for the study, what you hope to achieve from the PhD and your research experience to date) to studentship@eng.ox.ac.uk


Award Value
Annual living and mobility allowance will be up to €67,200 - the exact value of the fellowship will depend upon employer deductions, personal circumstances and the applicable exchange rate.
