UK: Grattan PhD Scholarships

The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, Trinity College Dublin invites applications for three PhD scholarships as part of its innovative new social sciences research programme – The Grattan Scholars.
Each scholarship is fully-funded, including fees and an annual stipend of €20,000 for four years. Students will gain invaluable research and teaching experience, preparing them to take their place as academic leaders of the future.
Grattan Scholars will be chosen not only for their scholarly achievements, but also for their commitment to teaching and ambition to understand and improve society through their research and education.
The Grattan Scholars Programme has been established with the generous support of alumni and friends of Trinity College Dublin.
2013 Grattan Scholarships 
Grattan Scholars are required to engage in teaching-related activities to a maximum of six hours per week during the teaching term.
In 2013, the second year of the programme, scholarships are to be awarded to PhD students undertaking research in the following areas:
A further scholarship is available on one of the following Migration related themes within the Sociology Department – a leading hub for migration research:
  • Ireland’s Software Sector and Immigrant Skills
  • Social Integration of Immigrant Families in Ireland
  • Living in Australia and the UK: The New Irish Diaspora
  • Migration, Mobility and Career Success: Irish Emigrants in Britain and the USA
  • Immigration Camps as State Instruments of Modern Day Biopolitics
Application Process
The deadline for applications is 31 March, 2013. Applicants must meet of course the entry requirements to the PhD in the relevant discipline area. Please note that applicants should indicate the relevant research topic and their interest in The Grattan Scholars programme in their PhD application.
