UK: 2 Posts - 0.4 FTE Sustainability Project Officer and PhD Studentship combined

Deadline: 19th September 2012

Keele University

Starting Salary: Grade 6a, £27,578 (40% pro rata)
(The post also includes payment of PhD tuition fees and capped research expenditure)
Fixed Term for 3 years
As a result of Keele University's commitment to the Environmental Sustainability agenda, two Project Officer posts have been created to assist the new Director of Education for Sustainability in embedding sustainability within the taught curriculum and within the wider student experience.  The posts offered are part-time (0.4fte) and the successful candidates will be expected to undertake a PhD in an environmental/sustainability-related area.  One PhD will be undertaken within the Research Institute for Environment, Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics and the other will be offered within the Research Institute for Social Sciences or Research Institute for the Humanities. The PhD project topic will be developed by the candidate in consultation with an appropriate supervisory team.  Both positions are available immediately for a fixed-term of 3 years.  PhD tuition fees will be waived for the period of six years to enable the PhD to be undertaken on a part-time basis.
The successful candidates will be expected to develop learning and teaching resources for staff, (including participation in staff development events), liaise with staff, students and student bodies, manage specific sustainability education projects through organisation of meetings and events, develop promotional materials and web-pages, and carry out project evaluation and dissemination activities.
You will have a strong background knowledge and commitment to the environment and sustainability agenda and a commitment to both teaching and research.  You will have a degree ideally in an environmental/sustainability-related discipline or involving a significant environmental/sustainability component.  Previous experience of organising and delivering educational development projects in this field and experience of sustainability research is advantageous.  The posts involve a large element of independent working as well as the ability to work as part of a team.  You will have excellent communication, and organisational skills, and a good practical knowledge of IT.
