Deadline: 13th July 2012 Nationality: International How to Apply and Further Information. |
Department of Veterinary Disease Biology (IVS), Faculty of
Health and Medical Sciences (SUND) at the University of Copenhagen is
offering a PhD scholarship for the project "Optimization of dosage and
clinical efficacy of new macrolides" commencing 1 October 2012 or soon
thereafter. The application deadline is 13 July 2012.
Project description
The project is a 3-year Marie Curie PhD project within the
programme "TRAIN-ASAP - Training and Research Aimed at Novel
Antibacterial Solutions in Animals and People".
New data indicates that macrolides belonging to the azalide class
may process concentration-dependent kill activity in contrast to older
macrolides which are regarded as time-dependent antibiotics. Azalide
products are currently administered in anticipation of time-dependent
activity and may therefore be used inefficiently. This project will
examine the kill rate of respiratory pathogens after exposure to
selected azalide macrolides in an in vitro model, study the distribution
of the drugs into the respiratory tract secretions and inflammatory
cells using a porcine infection model, and perform a confirmative dose
study in naturally infected animals.
The Marie Curie PhD scholarship provides a three-year stipend
including mobility allowance, training and stay at the different
partners as well as a tuition fee.
