Denmark: Ph.D. scholarship in Robotics and Simulation

Deadline: August 1, 2012

How to APPLY.

Job description:
Applications are invited for a 3-year Ph.D. scholarship in Robotics and Simulation at The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark in Odense, available from September 1, 2012 or soon thereafter.

The Ph.D. position will be offered in the context of the Patient@home project (www.patientathome.dk).

The research will be centered around assisting patients at home with chosen processes such as fetching unknown items or bringing a glass of water. The core research topic in the project will be to develop realistic simulations for the dynamic interactions between robot and environment involved with the chosen processes. The developed realistic simulations will be used to constrain and optimize the processes at hand at a planning level and for the development of intuitive control pads for the patient at execution level.

The project´s research platform is a Care-o-Bot with a mounted Universal Robot arm will be used to test the developed research results in realistic environments. The development will be carried out using the software library RobWork and within the general robotics and vision research framework at the institute.

Applicants for the scholarship must have a Master’s degree in robot systems engineering, or a related field. Candidates with a documented expertise within developing dynamic simulation tools and with programming robotic systems will be preferred.

For further information on the position, please contact Professor Henrik G. Petersen, phone: +45 6011 2324, e-mail: hgp@mmmi.sdu.dk.
