Social Psychology: Identity processes in multicultural contexts
Supervisor: Dr. Sofia Stathi
Applications are invited for one PhD scholarship focusing on individual and group identity processes in diverse social contexts. Immigration and the globalisation of employment and education market have led to the development of multicultural societies. Such processes increase the complexity of people's identities. This PhD project will explore the implications of different (and in some occasions conflicting) identities on people's psychological well-being and social adjustment. Antecedents and consequences of the integration of multiple identities for the individual (e.g., cognitive flexibility, life satisfaction, etc) and the society (e.g., conflict, social norms, etc) will be explored. The research will utilise correlational, quasi experimental and experimental methods.
Eligibility criteria This scholarship is available for top-performing students. Candidates must demonstrate that they have achieved a minimum of 2:1 (Upper Second) or equivalent in their first degree and/or an appropriate Masters degree in Psychology. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate an interest in Social Psychology.
