EU: PhD fellowships

Eleven Early Stage Researcher (ESR) positions are now available in the YEASTCELL Marie-Curie Initial Training Network (ITN). YEASTCELL – Yeast Cell Factories: Training Researchers to Apply Modern Post-Genomic Methods In Yeast Biotechnology – is an international PhD programme that links research in fundamental yeast biology with applications in biotechnology. Eleven Centres of Excellence in Europe will each host one ESR student on a collaborative research project that also includes secondments to other partners and to industry. In addition to the PhD research project, comprehensive training in other skills, including commercialisation is offered to all ESRs in the programme. What we offer:

  • Registration for a PhD at a top level European University

  •  A comprehensive training programme that includes the award of a Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship as well as a PhD
  • A 36 month employment contract on EU Marie Curie rates (€38k/pa + mobility allowance)
What we require:
  • A BSc or MSc degree in microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics, computational biology or similar discipline
  • Demonstrated track record of motivation and high academic achievement
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Compliance with EU eligibility requirements (see below)
  • Willingness to undertake secondments and training with different partners
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Availability for interviews (schedule below) and capacity to start research by April 2014
