Germany: DAAD Scholarships

DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP)
What is the aim of this new funding scheme?
As more and more PhD students apply to German graduate schools instead of contacting a supervisor for individual supervision of their research work, GSSP implements an alternative modus of application and selection:
Within the framework of the GSSP programme, scholarships are awarded in a three-stage competition and selection
procedure:
  1. Graduates who wish to participate apply at one of the graduate programmes listed on the GSSP website.
  1. Following a selection process the graduate programme submits a short list of qualified candidates to the DAAD. Additionally, the nominees have to submit an application form with supporting documentation.
  1. A committee at DAAD comprised of university professors makes the final decision in the selection of the scholarship awards.

As a first step, applications must be sent directly to the graduate school.
