UK: Research Fellowships In Engineering and Technology

Deadline: 3 October 2013

University of Cambridge -Emmanuel College
The Governing Body of Emmanuel College invites applications from men and women for three fixed-term three year Research Fellowships in any subject, and for one Alan Wilson Research Fellowship in the biological or medical sciences: all four Fellowships are for a three-year fixed term, and will commence on 1 October, 2014. Applicants must show promise of being able to pursue research at the highest international level, and should not have completed more than eight years of post-graduate study and research by October 1, 2014.
The stipend for Research Fellows is related to the national academic scale. The current stipend for pre-doctoral (resp. post-doctoral) Research Fellows is £21,087 (resp. £22,458), if the Fellow is resident in College, and £23,208 (resp. £24,579), if the Fellow is not resident in College. Pre-doctoral Research Fellows will be responsible for any University fee they incur up to the level of a UK post-graduate student; the College will contribute the difference if a higher fee is applicable. A limited amount of teaching in College is permitted, for which payment will be made at the usual rate.
Additional benefits provided for Research Fellows will include grants for research expenses and academic travel, a book allowance, and assistance with computing facilities.  Research Fellows will be given the option to live in College (although no married accommodation can be provided), and will be provided with lunch and dinner in Hall free of charge.
The application process for the Fellowships is published online: www.emma.cam.ac.uk/resfell from 2 September, 2013, and applications must be received by 5 pm on 3 October, 2013.  Candidates must also arrange for two people familiar with their work to submit their references online to the College by 5 pm on 3 October, 2013.  In case of difficulties, please e-mail researchfellowships@emma.cam.ac.uk.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited during the week beginning 18 November, 2013 to submit copies of any published or unpublished work in support of their application. This work will be requested in both electronic form and as one hard copy, by 26 November, 2013.  Candidates will not be interviewed by the College. It is hoped to make elections to the Research Fellowships in the week beginning 20 January, 2014.
