Germany: Master program in advanced optical technologies

Deadline: 14 April 2013

The application for stage 1 is dealt with by academic representatives from the programme. In stage 1 the whole application is to be submitted electronically. No hard copies should be sent unless explicitly requested.
Applications must be submitted by sending an email with all required documents as attachements to:
The following documents must be submitted:
  • Completed application form (Excel file)
  • Curriculum vitae (CV) which includes details of school and higher education
  • Scans of the certificates and transcripts of all academic degrees, which should comprise the actual degree and a report listing all courses attended and grades achieved. A Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent qualification) in Physics or a relevant engineering subject is the minimum entrance requirement
In special cases a Bachelor's in a scientific subject other than Physics is acceptable where sufficient knowledge of optical technologies can be demonstrated.
You can also apply, if you have not yet completed your previous Bachelor. Please submit all documents about your study which are at your disposal (in particular a transcript of records is substantial). It does not lower your chances to be admitted if you have not yet completed the previous Bachelor.
  • Scan of the high school or secondary school diploma (also including courses and grades).
  • Letter of motivation (ca. one A4 page) including information on the following THREE questions:
  1. Why do you want to study optical technologies?
  2. Why do you want to study in Germany and on an international, English-speaking programme.
  3. Why are you particularly interested in MAOT?

File formats

The application form must be submitted as an excel file. All other files should be submitted in PDF format. Please try to reduce the number of files to a maximum of three (combine various documents in one file where possible).

Telephone interview

If the online application (i.e. evaluation of the submitted documents) is successful, the applicant will then be invited to a telephone interview with one of the professors from MAOT and will be asked to submit letters of reference. After the interview, a decision on whether the applicant has passed stage 1 will be made based on the quality of the other applications. No applicant should start the procedures for stage 2 until he/she has been explicitly asked to do so.
