DBST is funded by the World Class University (WCU) program of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Korea. DBST brings together the disciplines of plant molecular biology, genetics, genomics, wood science, and bioprocess engineering to advance the science of renewable energy. Professor Carlson is leading a DBST-wide WCU research program on the sequencing of genomes and transcriptomes for the identification of gene networks that regulate lignocellulose production, fatty acid biosynthesis, and the response to environmental stress in bioenergy plants. This research will contribute not only to optimization of bioethanol, biomaterials, and biodiesel, but also to a better understanding of plant genome organization and function
