Denmark: PhD position in Intra-Hour Power Market Model Development

Deadline: 5 Dec. 2012

The Department of Electrical Engineering invites applications for a PhD position in intra-hour power market model development.

The PhD position is part of the national strategic smart grid project - iPower.

The project focuses on continued development of an existing intra-hour power market model for providing balancing resources within the operational hour considering the high penetration of wind power and active participation of demand side. The Wilmar model (www.wilmar.risoe.dk) will also be expanded focusing on the inclusion of the developed intra-hour power market model.

The development of the project has a large degree of freedom. It is therefore crucial that the PhD candidate is mature, independent and able to think outside the box. The intra-hour power market model is under development by two PhD students. The new PhD will take their work as a starting point.

Main objectives:
  • Further development of system model for intra-hour power markets.
  • Further development of the Wilmar model.
  • Analysis of the technical and economic consequences of introducing flexible demand solutions in the power system.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a MSc in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or operation research. It is desirable that you have experience in optimization modelling preferably using GAMS and Matlab. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory and should be documented in your application by including a certified TOEFL test certificate.
