Deadline: 1st December 2012
7 Ph.D.positions – Research Assistant – Salary: 75%, TV-L E13
Fakultät II – Research Training Group 1558 (GRK1558) „Nonequilibrium Collective Dynamics in
Condensed Matter and Biological Systems“ / Institut für Theor. Physik
Reference number: FO-686 (to be filled from 01.10.2012 or 01.12.2012 for up to 18 month, extension to
3 years in the second funding period is planed, closing date for applications 26.07.2012)

associated with the Technische Universität Berlin and its partner institutions, the Potsdam University, the
Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt, and the Fritz-Haber Institute offers a platform for educating
doctoral students in interdisciplinary research by applying and developing concepts for describing the
collective dynamics of nonlinear dissipative systems chosen from three project areas: A Hard matter:
Nonlinear transport and quantum optics in semiconductors, B Soft matter: Collective dynamics and
hydrodynamic interactions in complex fluids, C Biological Systems: Self-organization and non-linear
waves in active media. The projects are mostly theoretical in nature, except: project C1. For more
information on the single projects, please consult the website: http://www.itp.tu-berlin.de/GRK1558.
The following projects offer free positions from 01.10.2012: A1, A2, A5, B1, and C2
The following projects offer free positions from 01.12.2012: B3, and C1 (UP)
Requirements: as a successful candidate you should hold a master/diploma degree in physics.
Applicants should have expertise in theoretical work related to the project area they are interested in.
Please send your application together with the relevant documents (curriculum vitae, list of publications, a
cover letter indicating the project you are interested in, and certificates of academic qualifications) and
quoting the job reference number to the Präsidenten der Technischen Universität Berlin, Faculty II, Inst. of
Theor. Physik, GRK 1558, Sekr. EW 7-1, Hardenbergstr. 36, 10623 Berlin or by mail to julia.eckert@tuberlin.de.
