Sweden: PhD student in Polymer Technology for the project: “Biopolymers from syngas fermentation”

Deadline: 10th August 2012

Project description – Polymer Technology division

The transition to sustainable society demands a shift from oil-based to bio-based materials. At the same time material production should not compete with food production. The overall goal of this project is cost-effective production of biopolymers using products derived from fermentation of syngas generated from complex biomass waste. This will be achieved by integrated processing technology allowing treatment and recycling of biological and chemical wastes and raw materials in a single step. The work of the PhD student at Polymer Technology division will concentrate on synthesis, characterization and testing of the biopolymers designed from raw materials from syngas fermentation.
The work will be performed in collaboration with several European universities, research institutes and companies.

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria

The potential candidates must have Master’s degree in polymer science, materials science, chemistry or corresponding degrees. Special qualifications in polymer synthesis and characterization will be regarded as an advantage.
The candidate should be highly motivated for doing scientific research and should have well developed analytical and problem solving skills.

Application procedure

Application should be sent electronically to Inga Persson,  inpe@kth.se .
The application marked with reference no K-2012-0239 must include the following:
