ITC invites applications to fill a postdoctoral scientist position in the department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-information Management (PGM)



De uitdaging / The challenge
The Postdoctoral Scientist will integrate the results from the three PhD projects, distil lessons for continuously managing the human sensor web as a boundary object in Tanzania and propose scalability strategies in the East African region. The candidate will safeguard the HSW’s multiple uses and ensure the sustained participation by major stakeholders. The candidate will lead HSW stakeholder & users workshops in tandem with the ‘deploy and learn’ releases of SEMA prototype software, in cooperation with other senior staff, the software developer and PhD students. The postdoctoral Scientist will seek opportunities for deliberation, negotiation, mediation or confrontation and debate between major stakeholders and a wider circle of relevant actors, including media.

Ons aanbod / Our offer
A full-time appointment in an inspiring and challenging international environment for 2 years or preferably a part-time appointment (3 days a week) for 3 years. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities, based upon the job profile ‘Onderzoeker 3’.

Uw profiel / Your profile
  • Doctorate in water resources, or public health and a strong background in Science and Technology Studies (STS)
  • Fluency in English, knowledge of or the desire to learn Kiswahili; previous field experience in Africa is an advantage
  •  Strong inter-disciplinary and team management skills
  • Demonstrated academic and group leadership
  • Excellent research skills
