The Graduate School of the Center of
Advanced Security Research Darmstadt (CASED) at the Technische
Universität Darmstadt (Germany), in conjunction with the Embedded
Systems and Applications Group (ESA) of the Department of Computer
Science, offers a
Scholarship in a Doctorate / Ph.D. Program
for University graduates in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar disciplines, with a maximum funding period of three years.
CASED is an IT Security research center currently being established at the Technische Universität Darmstadt in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT) and the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (h_da). CASED will
constitute a research infrastructure for cutting-edge IT Security research.
The graduate student will work on hardware-accelerated security measures for high-speed networks, specifically the development of heterogeneous computer architectures for network intrusion detection systems (NIDS). To cope with the ever-faster data transfer rates, the
investigation should consider systems combining CPUs, graphics processing units (GPUs) and FPGAs for improved performance.
This research absolutely requires substantial knowledge of networking techniques (e.g., protocols such as TCP/IP) as well as experience in digital logic design (e.g., Verilog, VHDL, synthesis, simulation etc.), computer architecture (e.g., memory and system interfaces,
caches, etc.), and low-level programming (e.g., Linux kernel and porting, C, assembler, GNU tool chain, JTAG debugging, etc.).
Furthermore, the applicant must be an outstanding student holding a Master's degree (or German Diploma or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines. He or she must have excellent methodical and analytical skills and be proficient in German or English (oral and writing).
CASED aims to have higher proportion of female scientists compared to the average German research institution and especially encourages applications of female postgraduate students.
For further information on, please visit the web site http://www.cased.de/en/graded/graded.html
In your application, please be sure to reference this position as ``FG ESA (Prof. Koch)''.
If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Koch
