Sweden: Postdoctoral position in reactor technology, S-2012-1008

Deadline: 7 Jan. 2013

Project
Modeling of critical heat flux in light water reactors
The occurrence of Critical Heat Flux (CHF) in Light Water Reactors (LWR) is one of the most important limiting factors in safe and economic operation of nuclear power plants. In particular, when vapor content in fuel assemblies is high, the triggering mechanism for the onset of CHF is disappearing of a thin liquid film, covering cladding of nuclear fuel elements. So far there are no reliable methods that can predict the thinning and breaking-up of the liquid film in diabatic annular two-phase flows. The aim of the current position is to develop, implement and validate models to predict the onset of CHF and post-CHF heat transfer using the CMFD approach.

Qualifications

A suitable background for this position is a PhD degree (received within the last 4 years) in engineering physics, nuclear engineering or mechanical engineering, with a specialization in computational and/or experimental thermal-hydraulics. In addition, candidates should be able to work independently and show good communication and language skills. International experience, as well as previous familiarity with CMFD is regarded as advantageous qualifications.
