MEDOW (Multi-terminal DC grid for offshore wind) is a €3.9M Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN), co-ordinated by Cardiff University.
The network consists of 11 partners (5 universities and 6 industrial organisations) with collective expertise on the manufacturing, design, operation, and control of multi-terminal DC grids.  A DC grid based on multi-terminal voltage-source converter is a newly emerging technology, which is particularly suitable for the connection of offshore wind farms. Multi-terminal DC grids will be the key technology for the European offshore SuperGrid.
12 full-time Early Stage Researcher (PhD) positions are available in the MEDOW network. These positions will be based  at Cardiff University (UK) or at a MEDOW partner institution in Barcelona (Spain), Porto (Portugal), Leuven (Belgium), Brussels (Belgium) or Roskilde (nr. Copenhagen, Denmark).
The network will share complementary expertise, infrastructure and facilities for the training of the next generation of top-quality researchers in this field.
In addition to their individual scientific projects, all fellows will benefit from further continuing education, which includes internships and secondments, a variety of training modules as well as transferable skills courses and active participation in workshops and conferences.
Further details of the positions and of general eligibility requirements for ESR positions can be found athttp://www.medow.engineering.cf.ac.uk/
We particularly welcome applications from females as they are under-represented within Cardiff University in this field.
The MEDOW Marie Curie Initial Training Network is funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union.
