UK: PhD Studentship in Biological Sciences

Deadline: 5 June 2013

PhD Studentships for October 2013
Institute of Cancer Research
  • Investigating the effects of extracellular matrix composition on receptor tyrosine kinase signalling in cancer cells

The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years.
We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease.
Today, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) leads the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment. Together with our partner hospital The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally. The ICR offers comprehensive, modern facilities for research and 4 year studentships supported by the Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK and the ICR’s own resources which are awarded on a competitive basis.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduate or final year undergraduate who hold or expect to gain a first/upper second class honours degree or equivalent.
Successful candidates will undertake a research training programme under the guidance of named supervisors and will receive an annual stipend – the minimum stipend for 2013 graduate students will be £21,000.
