Netherlands: The Netherlands Cancer Institute is looking for a PhD student

Deadline: 30 April 2013

Job description
Project: The project, which is funded by the Dutch Cancer Society, aims to explore DDT as a drug-target for chemosensitization. As effective DDT strongly depends on site-specific PCNA-ubiquitination, a DDT blockade will increase platinum drug efficacy without increasing neuro- and nephrotoxicity. To reveal the chemosensitizing potential of a DDT blockade, PCNA-ubiquitination will be blocked at the genetic and biochemical level. In addition, the contribution of error-prone PCNA-Ub dependent DDT in tumor development and progression will be determined in our PCNAK164R mutant mice.

Organisation

The Netherlands Cancer Institute, the research laboratory of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital (NKI-AVL), is a world-class institute for cancer research and cancer care based in Amsterdam. Its mission is to combat cancer through excellence in patient care and scientific research. In comparison with large universities, NKI-AVL is a relatively small and highly focussed organisation. Within a flat management structure, over 2,100 dedicated scientists, physicians and staff members work in a specialised clinical care unit with 180 beds (AVL) and a closely associated research institute (NKI). Together they treat close to 30,000 patients, produce over 400 scientific publications and support the granting of 30 PhD degrees per year.
