‘Changing Employment' is an exciting PhD and post-doctoral Marie Curie Initial Training Network involving a cross-European and interdisciplinary network of policy-focused social scientists. The aim of the programme is to identify the nature of restructuring in European labour markets and economies as a result of current economic and social change, and to explore the impact on employment, work relations and working lives, recognising that this will have implications for gender, ethnicity and young and older people at work. The programme is co-ordinated by the Department of Human Resource Management, which is part of Strathclyde Business School.
Strathclyde University invites applications for an Early Stage Researcher (PhD position) for the project -‘Pathways to citizenship (inclusion) and conflict (exclusion): employment relations in migrant workers' workplaces in Belfast, Edinburgh and Wroclaw' (Work Package 2 Inclusion and Exclusion). The project will take a cross-national comparative perspective of migration in settled communities and local employment in UK and Poland and compare employment relations and migrant organising strategies in these countries. It will also involve a period of secondment to the European Trade Union Institute in Brussels.
The position is for 3 years and will be under the supervision of Professor Paul Stewart (paul.stewart.100@strath.ac.uk) who is also the programme coordinator.
Applicants must possess a Master's degree in social sciences, preferably in sociology, political sciences, anthropology, social policy or employment relations and have excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).
Applicants must also satisfy the eligibility rules stipulated by the Framework 7 Guidelines of the European Commission. Researchers can be of any nationality and are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their appointment. Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to recruitment.
