Deadline: 25 Nov. 2012
DTU Informatics would like to invite applications for a 3-year PhD position starting 1st April 2013. The project is financed by the Danish Council for Independent Research | Technology and Production Sciences, who has granted funding for a 3 year project “Hard Real-Time Embedded Multiprocessor.
Platform – RTEMP”. The project will fund one PhD-student and one Post doc. (position already filled), and the project will benefit from synergy with the EU FP7 project T-CREST. Consequently, the PhD-candidate will become part of a significant research group.
Project Description
The overall objectives of the RTEMP project are: (1) to develop a time-predictable multi-processor platform for real-time embedded systems that is specifically optimized for implementation in field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology, and (2) to evaluate this platform using a real-world application provided by an industrial partner. The time predictability perspective affects the processor architecture, the network on chip design, the compiler etc., and the FPGA perspective calls for area-efficient solutions. The PhD-student will work mainly on the hardware architecture and implementation, the lower levels of software, and the tradeoffs between hardware and software. The PhD project will be located in the section for Embedded Systems Engineering.
Requirements
Candidates must have a master degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering, or equivalent academic qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates who can document knowledge of computer organization and design, design of digital systems using (VHDL, CAD-tools and FPGA-technology), and real-time systems possibly including worst-case execution time analysis. Furthermore, good command of the English language is essential.
Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current Danish rules for PhD degree students.
