Denmark: PhD position in End-2-End Energy Efficient Communication Systems

Deadline: 5th November 2012

DTU Fotonik at the Technical University of Denmark has an open PhD position in End-2-End Energy Efficient Communication Systems, Networks and Applications.

Project summaryA key problem with the continuous increase in bandwidth demand of the Internet is the related increase in power consumption. Power consumption for communication infrastructure is a considerable part of the global power consumption. While equipment cost can be kept almost stable for increased capacity, there is a strong relation between capacity and power consumption with current used technology and techniques.
The reduction of power consumption can be approached in many ways and at many levels, ranging from new or more efficient components to new ways of handling data in the network and new ways of providing services and presenting them to the end users. However, these approaches are interrelated and an initiative in one area will have an impact in many other areas.
