Denmark: PhD Scholarship in Optical Modeling and Advanced Optical Design for LED Lighting

Deadline:15th August 2012

DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark has an open PhD position in optical modeling and advanced optical design for LED systems for lighting applications.

The PhD position is part of a large project which purpose is to develop a fundamentally new LED light engine that combines high quality white light and highly saturated colors and fully utilizes the energy efficiency potentials of LED components. The primary goal is to outperform traditional lamps in the entertainment industry in terms of energy efficiency and light quality.

The PhD work will focus on the following tasks:
  • Advanced design and optimization of LED optical systems using computer modeling
  • Photometric and colorimetric test of components and LED systems
  • Experimental demonstration
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. The candidate should have solid background within more of the topics:
  • Optical modeling i.e. ZEMAX
  • Optics
  • Light emitting diodes
Your personal profile:
  • You have the ability to work independently to plan and carry out complicated tasks and to be a part of a dynamical project team working on a common goal.
  • Good communication skills in written and spoken English.
