Deadline: 20 Dec. 2012
Position:PhD student in Chemical Engineering in the field of Applied Electrochemistry:
Li-ion batteries for hybrid vehicles.
The PhD project focuses on electrochemical characterization of Li-ion batteries for hybrid applications with emphasis on aging mechanisms. The project will be conduct in close cooperation between Scania, Volvo, Chalmers and Uppsala University and is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency's program: "Energy-efficient road vehicles." Especially it aims to develop general and validated prediction models for Li-ion battery performance over time based on fundamental physical aging processes. The knowledge obtained is important for the optimization of the battery, both concerning cell design and operating conditions. The performance losses caused by the usage are related to changes in the electrode reaction kinetics and mass transfer in the electrodes and electrolyte. For the evaluation and understanding of usage, it is valuable to combine mathematical modeling with experimental work. The project is a continuation of an ongoing PhD project focusing on LiFePO4 /graphite chemistry but will specifically address intercalation materials capable for higher temperature. The research results will be presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed international scientific journals.
The candidate should also have good communication skills in English in speech and writing, able to work both in a team and independently, demonstrate initiative and be proactive in the project.
The position also include teaching at graduate and undergraduate level in the form of laboratory tutorials or exercises and therefore ability to communicate in Swedish or an interest in learning Swedish is a merit.
Reference number: K-2012-0430
The application must include a cover letter with an description of the applicant’s background, interests, skills and talents relevant for the position, a CV and copies of relevant degrees, certificates, thesis and any publications, and contact information for two references attached (thesis and publications please sent as PDF files).
The application should be sent to registrator- registrator-ke@che.kth.se. Please indicate the reference number in the e-mail subject.
