Sweden: Postdoctoral Scholarship in Experimental Particle Physics, S-2012-1081

Deadline: 31 Jan. 2013

The Particle Physics group at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm is announcing a Postdoctoral Scholarship position to join its efforts on the ATLAS experiment at CERN.

Project DescriptionThe Particle Physics group at KTH is strongly involved in the ATLAS experiment at CERN. The group consists of two faculty members and two graduate students involved in the discovery and subsequent measurements of the Higgs boson and in searches for Supersymmetry. We have made significant contributions to the design, construction and commissioning of the Liquid Argon calorimeter pre-sampler and are currently pursuing upgrade projects for the ATLAS forward calorimeters.
The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in the group’s analysis efforts in either the search for Supersymmetry or in the measurements of the Higgs boson. He or she will work closely to the graduate students. The position will be based in Stockholm and at CERN, the exact division of the time depending on the needs of the group and the wishes of the applicant.

Qualifications and eligibility

Applicants should hold (or soon hold) a PhD in experimental particle physics or a related subject, obtained no later than five years prior to starting the position. Candidates may not have received their PhD from KTH.
Qualified candidates are expected to have experience with high energy physics detectors and particle physics analysis. Previous experience within ATLAS or CMS with experimental analysis techniques relevant to the project is considered an advantage but is not required. The applicant should be highly motivated by basic research and be able to work independently and as part of a team.  An excellent command of the English language is required.
Form of employment: time limited. A postdoctoral scholarship position is limited to 2 years in duration.
Start date: according to agreement.
Salary: according to KTH policy for postdoctoral scholarships.
