The University of Kent has established a scholarship fund of £8.5m to support postgraduate students.
University of Kent Academic Schools and Centres offer Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) and Scholarships for postgraduate study.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs)
Students engaged as Graduate Teaching Assistants hold a unique position in the University; they are both registered students in receipt of a scholarship award and employees of the University.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) cover tuition fees at the home/EU rate plus a maintenance grant and a salary element. The combined maintenance and salary of the GTA can be up to the same rate as the UK Research Councils (£13,590 per annum in the 2012-13 academic year).
GTAs will be offered for one year in the first instance, renewable for a maximum of three years subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Scholarships for Postgraduate Study
Scholarship payments vary from a one-off payment of a few hundred pounds to tuition fees at the home rate and/or maintenance payments at the same rate as the UK Research Councils (£13,590 per annum in the 2012-13 academic year).
Scholarships will be offered for one year in the first instance, renewable for a maximum of three years subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Criteria
Candidates must hold a good Honours degree (First or 2i) or a Master’s degree at merit or distinction in a relevant subject or equivalent.
GTAs and Scholarships are available to UK, EU and overseas postgraduate research students.
How to Apply
To be eligible for these scholarships, candidates must make a formal application for postgraduate research study at the University of Kent. Applications to the University can be made online.
All applicants who are successful in admission to the School of Engineering and Digital Arts by Thursday 31 January 2013 will be automatically considered for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship or a Scholarship. There is no separate application process.
