PhD student position in chemical biology of RNA degradation

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished bio molecular departments in Europe, comprising six research programs with about 125 employed. This position is within the program in Chemical Biology, Anders Virtanen’s laboratory.

Applicants should have a Master degree in biology or equivalent with a focus towards biotechnology, physics and chemistry. Decisions on admissionwill be based onassessment of theapplicant's abilityto benefit from thegraduate program.

Candidates with good knowledge and practical skills in molecular biology in general, and in modelling biomolecules followed by structural/functional experimental analyses, are highly preferred. The ability to work within a multinational group is important and the candidate must also be able to communicate orally and in writing in English. The ability to teach in English and/or Swedish is important.

The project will involve kinetic and structural/functional analyses of enzymes participating in eukaryotic mRNA poly(A) tail removal.

The holder of the position will devote most time to research. The position will involve that the candidate performs other duties at the department, including teaching and administrative duties as required, up to a maximum of 20% of the position.
Employment in the position is dependent on the student fulfilling the requirements for entry and acceptance to the graduate education program. Requirements for graduate students are contained in the Higher Education Chapter 5, paragraphs 1-7, and in the University Rules and Regulations http://regler.uu.se/. Salary will be determined by local guidelines and practice.
